The benefits of encouraging children to work hard together and earn money as a family:

1. all of our teenagers have sizeable missionary funds; 
2. all of our children over eleven know they will have a job; 
3. no Sunday work is involved; 
4. the children have learned valuable skills; 
5. they are learning to budget their resources and to distinguish between wants and needs; and 
6. as their father, I have had many wonderful teaching moments with them as we have worked side by side."

Education: The World Pays You What They Think You Are Worth

“Work for an education. Get all the training that you can. The world will largely pay you what it thinks you are worth. Paul did not mince words when he wrote to Timothy, “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel” (1 Tim. 5:8).

…Education is the key to economic opportunity. The Lord has laid a mandate upon us as a people to acquire learning “by study, and also by faith” (D&C 109:14). It is likely that you will be a better provider if your mind and hands are trained to do something worthwhile in the society of which you will become a part.”

Education: Fill Your Mind With Truth

“First, fill your mind with truth. We do not find truth groveling through error. Truth is found by searching, studying, and living the revealed word of God. We adopt error when we mingle with error. We learn truth when we associate with truth.

…He invites each of us, 'Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.'(See D&C 19:23)

…We live in turbulent times. Often the future is unknown; therefore, it behooves us to prepare for uncertainties. Statistics reveal that at some time, because of the illness or death of your husband or because of economic necessity, you may find yourself in the role of financial provider. I urge you to pursue your education and learn marketable skills so that, should an emergency arise, you are prepared to provide. 

Your talents will expand as you study and learn. You will be able to better assist your children in their learning, and you will have peace of mind in knowing that you have prepared yourself for the eventualities that you may encounter in life."
